How We Evaluate MT5 Brokers

Each broker we list on our page is evaluated using the same set of key factors we believe are the most influential to the overall quality of your trading experience.

Regulation

The massive popularity of online trading in recent years has led to a rise of brokers regulated by questionable regulatory bodies, which is why we heavily favor those brokers regulated by reputable financial authorities.

For instance, brokers regulated by bodies like the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), and Australia’s ASIC are favored on our list due to the fact that these bodies enforce strict rules like segregation of client funds, capital requirements and transparent reporting, which are designed to protect traders.

Unregulated or offshore brokers may offer attractive conditions, but they often come with a higher risk of misconduct or insolvency.

Trading Fees and Commissions

This is something that all traders should keep in mind, as fee structures set by brokers can heavily influence the overall quality of your trading experience.

Some brokers are built on commission-based models with extremely tight spreads, while others provide trading with zero commissions but with wider spreads.

We want to highlight brokers that offer the best possible deals to traders, and those that do not charge exorbitant withdrawal and deposit fees, or rollover and swap rates.

Tradable Instruments

As MetaTrader 5 is a multi-asset trading platform, the variety of trading instruments a broker offers can also be a big factor.

While some of the most respected brokers are focused strictly on Forex pairs, for example, we believe that highlighting those with a variety of options is also important.

This is both due to the fact that having more options and venues to learn and grow your trading skills in, but also because having the ability to diversify your portfolio with a variety of assets remains one of the key aspects of risk management and long-term success.

Execution Speed and Platform Performance

The speed and quality of trade execution are critical, especially for scalpers and day traders. Slippage and requotes can significantly impact profits.

Brokers that offer features like low-latency executions, Direct Market Access (DMA), and those that have support for Virtual Private Servers (VPS) are something we want to highlight.

The overall performance of the broker’s platform is of course something that impacts our evaluation as well, as the standards today are high and the MT5 implementation should run smoothly across all devices, be it on desktop, web or mobile.

Customer Support and Educational Tools

A good user experience is only complete with quality customer support service and the availability of educational tools.

The best brokers today offer around-the-clock customer support through a variety of different channels, and provide traders with advanced trading tools, market analysis and educational courses and webinars, while some also provide mentorship services.

A Quick Guide to MetaTrader 5

MetaTrader 5 is a next-generation trading platform developed by MetaQuotes, succeeding the widely popular MetaTrader 4 (MT4).

Unlike its predecessor, which is strictly limited to forex trading, MT5 is built as a true multi-asset platform.

It enables trading in a variety of instruments, allowing for much greater portfolio diversification.

Launched in 2010, MT5 has grown steadily in popularity due to its highly enhanced features, faster processing, and much broader functionality.

Key Features of MetaTrader 5

These are some of the main advantages you can make use of with a broker that features this specific trading platform:

Multi-Asset Trading Support

One of MT5’s biggest selling points is its wide support for different asset classes from a single terminal.

With the right broker you can manage a variety of assets like forex, stocks, options, cryptocurrencies and more, all on one single platform.

Advanced Technical Analysis Tools

MT5 comes with 38 built-in technical indicators, 44 graphical objects, and 21 timeframes.

This makes it easier to spot trends, conduct detailed market analysis, and allows for the crafting of much more precise trading strategies.

Whether you’re using simple moving averages or custom-built oscillators, MT5 has tools that cater to all trading styles.

Economic Calendar Integration

Unlike its predecessor, MT5 includes an integrated economic calendar.

This allows you to keep track of the most impactful market-moving events such as interest rate announcements, inflation data, quarterly reports and employment reports without needing to leave the trading platform.

Depth of Market (DOM)

MT5 offers a real-time Depth of Market feature that displays current bid/ask prices and the volume of orders at each level.

This is particularly useful for high-frequency traders and those using more complex trading strategies.

Faster Backtesting and Optimization

Backtesting in MT5 is significantly faster and more accurate thanks to multi-threaded strategy testing.

You can simulate trading robots (Expert Advisors) on historical data to assess performance and tweak settings before going live.

Algorithmic and Automated Trading

MT5 is built for automation. The platform uses the MQL5 programming language, much more powerful and flexible than MQL4.

Traders can create, test, and deploy trading bots, develop custom indicators, and even purchase third-party tools from the MetaTrader Market, making MT5 an ideal choice for algorithmic traders.

Built-In Copy Trading Features

Lastly, MT5 also supports social and copy trading, allowing traders to follow and automatically copy the strategies of more experienced market participants.

While some brokers do not allow for copy trading, others do, which can help you mirror the trades of signal providers and evaluate their performance over time.
