How to Use the Fortunly Tip Calculator

-
Total Bill Amount: Enter the final amount shown on your receipt.
-
Tip Percentage: Choose from standard options (15%, 20%) or enter a custom amount.
-
Number of People: If you’re the oney pating, leave this at one. If you're out with a group, enter the total number of people to see the tipping cost per individual.
While a few dollars might seem insignificant, consistent over-tipping or under-tipping impacts your monthly budget and the livelihood of service workers. Our tool ensures you stay within your financial boundaries while remaining a respectful patron.

FAQ
Should I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax total?
Traditionally, tipping is calculated on the pre-tax amount. However, most modern point-of-sale (POS) systems calculate suggested tips based on the total after tax. If you want to be precise, use our calculator to find the tip based on the subtotal before taxes were added.
How do I split a bill fairly among a group?
Our calculator includes a "Split Bill" feature. By entering the number of people in your party, the tool provides the total amount each person owes, including their portion of the tip.
Does "Auto-Gratuity" replace the tip?
Yes. If you see a line item for "Service Charge" or "Gratuity" (common for parties of 6 or more), the tip is already included. You are not required to add more, though you can if the service was exceptional.
